Elora Bissell Loop
1.8 KM — 20 minute leisurely walk
START: 25 Metcalfe Street, Elora (Public Parking Lot)
This 1.8 km walking loop will take you to one of Elora's beloved parks, Bissell Park, which has a wonderful boardwalk and paved pathway. From this park you will see views of Elora's whimsical downtown area. Bissell Park has a splash pad to cool off if you're exploring in the hot months! This loop is cyclist and pedestrian friendly.
Park at the Metcalfe Street Public Parking Lot (1). Begin your adventure by heading east on Water Street. At 90 Water St, there is a pedestrian walkway on the L, leading to the Bissell Park Bridge (2). Pause on the bridge and take some photos of the Bissell Dam on the Grand River. Don’t forget to tag @GrandTrails!
At the end of the bridge, turn L and walk through the park. Then turn R onto Melville St and walk up the street. Take care crossing Wellington Rd 18. Notice the Elora Centre for the Arts (3) on your R. At Church Square, dominated by Knox Presbyterian Church (4), turn L and continue along Church St past Hanscomb Glass Studio and the Church St Clock Tower (5), a unique work of public art. Continue on Church St E, taking care crossing busy Metcalfe St, jogging L and R to continue on Church St W. Then turn L onto Price St.
Turn L onto Mill St W at the Elora Mill Inn and Spa. Admire the local limestone architecture of the well-preserved buildings along Mill St W. Turn R onto the pedestrian bridge (6), the perfect place to take pictures of the Grand River and the Mill.
Explore the many one-of-a-kind shops in the vicinity of Mill St and Metcalfe St. Stop for a snack or a meal at one of the excellent dining choices.
Before you leave Elora, take a stroll through the Elora Art Garden and Picnic Area (7) at the corner of Mill St and Metcalfe St, and admire the Tall Man Sculpture in the centre of the park. Cross the road to the opposite side of Metcalfe St, and visit the Elora & Fergus Tourism Office (8) (public washroom) to find out about the many other things to do in the area. Then turn L to cross the Metcalfe St bridge (8)(more photo opportunities!) and walk back to the parking lot.
