PLACES TO STAY ALONG THE GRAND TRAIL IN WATERLOO REGION AND GUELPH
As you paddle through Waterloo Region, you will find few hotels close to river access points. If you plan a multi-day trip along the river you can camp or arrange a shuttle service to local hotels from an outfitter or a Bed and Breakfast. For cyclists along the Grand Trail there are many options near the trail.
The St Jacobs Farmers Market, on the outskirts of Waterloo, is a great place to start your cycling trip. There are several chain hotels adjacent to the market. From the market, the trail passes through the University of Waterloo, close to Wilfrid Laurier University. Both maintain summer hotels in their residences: Hotel Laurier and University of Waterloo Summer Accommodation. There is only 1 hotel in Uptown Waterloo, the Delta Hotels Waterloo.
There are two hotels in downtown Kitchener, close to the trail: Crowne Plaza Kitchener-Waterloo and the historic Walper Hotel. The Grand Trail passes through the Doon campus of Conestoga College just before crossing the pedestrian bridge over Hwy 401. The college runs a summer hotel, Conestoga College Residence and Conference Centre on the Doon campus.
Once the Grand Trail crosses Hwy 401 into Cambridge, it passes through Blair, a village that is now part of Cambridge. For a luxury experience, you can stay at Langdon Hall Country House Hotel & Spa. Otherwise, there is a cluster of chain hotels at Hespeler Road and Hwy 401.
If you choose to do the Multi-Day Bike Tour of Waterloo Region and Guelph, there is one hotel in downtown Guelph, the Western Hotel and Executive Suites. The University of Guelph also maintains a summer hotel, a short distance south of the Speed River, University of Guelph Summer Hostel. Finally, as you leave Guelph, there are several chain hotels along Woodlawn Rd W/Hwy 6.
